Are you and your family heading out this summer for a trip and you have concerns about the West Nile Virus. This is a growing concern for many parents as this virus continues to spread across the country. Children seem to be at a low risk which is good news to the ears of parents everywhere. But doing what you can to protect again mosquito bites is always a good idea.
Deet is just one mosquito repellent but should be used with caution and the Environmental Protection Agency offers these following recommendations for use of this product.  If your baby is less then two months old, this should not be used and always read and follow the direction on the product. Never apply on irritated skin or over cuts or scrapes and do not apply near the mouth or on the hands of younger children.
It is not a good idea to let children apply it themselves and do not over-apply the mosquito repellent. Once you are back indoors, be sure to wash with soap and water all the areas that you applied the product and wash any clothing that has repellent on be before wearing again. Because this is a spray, do not use it near food or indoors. Do not spray your face but rather spray you hands and then apply to your face.
