Thailand has been in the center of the collective imagination of the Western World for the best part of the last two centuries. Formerly known as the Kingdom of Siam, it has been host of many cultural movements and events, as well as less wanted armed conflicts, and it has been used as the setting for many plays and books and, later on, motion pictures. Siam was an important economic center of the region, both before the Western conquest and after, as the British Empire considered a very important hub for trade.
But nowadays it’s a country that lives mostly on its tourism. Not because it’s their only choice, but because it’s their best choice. Thailand has some of the most beautiful beaches in the World, and the atmosphere there is absolutely brilliant. Thailand holidays are considered extremely valuable for travel agents, who invest heavily on finding the best hotels and beaches for people to visit. There are some amazingly beautiful islands and stretches of coast that are virtually undiscovered by westerners, and where life is easy and also incredibly cheap. But don’t take out word for it, go out, take a plane and go see it for yourself, you’ll enjoy it.
